Terms and Conditions

Please read these terms carefully before using sidequest.university.

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using sidequest.university (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

2. Description of Service

sidequest.university is a platform that connects people who need tasks completed ("Task Requesters") with people who can complete those tasks ("Task Doers"). The Service uses location data to facilitate hyperlocal matching within your immediate area.

sidequest.university is a platform only. We facilitate connections between users but are not a party to any agreement between Task Requesters and Task Doers.

3. User Accounts and Roles

3.1 Account Registration

To use the Service, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information
  • Maintain the security of your password and account
  • Promptly update your account information if it changes

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

3.2 User Roles

Users may act as both Task Requesters and Task Doers. By using the Service in either role, you agree to:

  • Act in good faith and deal honestly with other users
  • Provide accurate information about tasks
  • Honour commitments you make through the platform
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations

4. Location Data and Privacy

4.1 Location Consent

Use of the Service requires you to grant location permissions. By providing your location:

  • You consent to us processing your location data as described in our Privacy Policy
  • You understand your exact location will never be shown to other users
  • Task locations are displayed with reduced precision (approximately 11 metres) for privacy
  • You may revoke location permissions at any time in your account settings

4.2 Location Accuracy

You are responsible for ensuring your location data is accurate. We are not responsible for matching errors resulting from inaccurate location data you provide.

5. Task Posting and Acceptance

5.1 Task Requesters

When posting a task, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, complete, and honest task descriptions
  • Not post tasks that are illegal, harmful, or violate these Terms
  • Honour your agreement with any Task Doer who accepts your task
  • Complete payment arrangements directly with the Task Doer (outside the platform)
  • Rate and review the Task Doer after completion

5.2 Task Doers

When accepting a task, you agree to:

  • Have the necessary skills, qualifications, and authority to complete the task
  • Complete the task as described and in a timely manner
  • Communicate promptly with the Task Requester
  • Arrange payment directly with the Task Requester (outside the platform)

5.3 Task Assignment

Tasks are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Once a Task Doer accepts a task, other users cannot accept that task. If you accept a task, you are making a commitment to the Task Requester.

6. Payments and Fees

6.1 Direct Payment (MVP)

During our MVP phase, sidequest.university does not process payments. Task Requesters and Task Doers must arrange payment directly between themselves outside the platform. Payment arrangements are solely between the users involved.

6.2 Future Payment Processing

We may introduce in-app payment processing in the future. If we do, we will update these Terms and implement appropriate payment terms, escrow arrangements, and fee structures. Users will be notified and asked to agree to updated payment terms before using any in-app payment features.

6.3 Platform Fees

sidequest.university is currently free to use during our MVP phase. We reserve the right to introduce fees for using the Service in the future. Users will be notified in advance of any fee changes.

7. User Conduct and Prohibited Activities

You agree not to:

  • Post false, misleading, or fraudulent tasks or information
  • Harass, abuse, threaten, or intimidate other users
  • Post tasks that are illegal or request illegal services
  • Use the Service for any commercial purpose not authorised by us
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or other users' accounts
  • Scrape, data-mine, or collect user information without consent
  • Circumvent or manipulate our rating and review system
  • Post spam, advertisements, or unsolicited messages
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Impersonate another person or entity

8. User-Generated Content

8.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of any content you post to the Service (task descriptions, messages, reviews, etc.). By posting content, you grant sidequest.university a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content in connection with operating the Service.

8.2 Content Moderation

We reserve the right (but have no obligation) to:

  • Monitor, review, and moderate user-generated content
  • Remove or hide content that violates these Terms
  • Suspend or terminate accounts for policy violations

8.3 Content Responsibility

You are solely responsible for your content. We do not endorse, support, represent, or guarantee the truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of any user-generated content.

9. Ratings and Reviews

After task completion, both Task Requesters and Task Doers may rate and review each other. By submitting a rating or review, you agree that:

  • Your review reflects your honest opinion and genuine experience
  • You will not post false, defamatory, or malicious reviews
  • Ratings and reviews may be visible to other users
  • We may remove reviews that violate our policies

10. Messaging and Communication

Our Service allows Task Requesters and Task Doers to communicate about specific tasks. By using our messaging feature:

  • Messages are private to the matched parties and platform moderators
  • Messages are retained for 30-90 days after task completion
  • You agree not to share personal contact information that could be used to circumvent the platform
  • You agree not to send spam, harassment, or inappropriate content
  • We may review messages for moderation and safety purposes

11. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

11.1 Service "As Is"

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

11.2 No Guarantee of Results

We do not guarantee that:

  • You will find suitable tasks or task doers
  • Tasks will be completed satisfactorily
  • Other users will fulfil their obligations
  • The Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free

11.3 User Disputes

We are not responsible for disputes between users. You agree that sidequest.university is not liable for any disputes, disagreements, or issues arising between Task Requesters and Task Doers, including disputes over payment, task completion, quality of work, or any other matter.

11.4 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SIDEQUEST.UNIVERSITY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES.

Our total liability to you for all claims arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed £100 or the amount you paid us in the past 12 months (currently £0 during MVP phase), whichever is greater.

11.5 Location Accuracy

We rely on device-provided location data and cannot guarantee its accuracy. We are not liable for errors, delays, or failures in task matching or notifications resulting from inaccurate location data.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless sidequest.university, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any rights of another person or entity
  • Your content posted on the Service
  • Disputes with other users

13. Account Termination

13.1 Termination by You

You may terminate your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us. Upon termination, you remain responsible for any outstanding obligations to other users.

13.2 Termination by Us

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if:

  • You violate these Terms
  • Your conduct risks harm to other users or the Service
  • We are required to do so by law
  • We discontinue the Service

We will provide notice when reasonably possible, but may terminate immediately for serious violations.

14. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, software, text, graphics, and other content (excluding user-generated content), is owned by sidequest.university and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or exploit any part of the Service without our prior written permission.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

15.1 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict of law principles.

15.2 Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

16. General Provisions

16.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and sidequest.university regarding the Service.

16.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

16.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.

16.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your account without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction.
