Why it exists

Campus is full of moments where a small favour would make a big difference – returning a library book, picking something up on the way to a lecture, or getting a hand moving a few bits. Sidequest helps those moments happen safely and simply, without needing group chats or endless messages.

It’s designed for the “last 100 metres” – the short distance where timing and location matter most.

How it works

• Post a task – add what you need, where you are, and what you’re offering.
• Nearby people see it – tasks are matched using location on campus, not broad postcode areas.
• Get it done – chat, confirm, and complete the task.
• Build trust – ratings help the community recognise reliable people over time.

Everyone can be a requester or a doer – it depends what you need in the moment.

Safety and trust

Sidequest is built around a campus environment, where trust matters. During the pilot, access is restricted to verified university email addresses, and task activity is logged so issues can be handled clearly and fairly.

As with any community tool, good judgement matters – only accept tasks you’re comfortable doing, and keep communication clear.

Payments

If a task includes payment, it’s handled securely through Stripe. Clear pricing, clear expectations – no awkward cash hand-offs.

Built for rapid iteration

This is an MVP pilot, which means the goal is to learn quickly and improve based on real usage. The site is built with a straightforward Django monolith (server-rendered pages with progressive enhancement) so updates can be made fast without compromising reliability.
